Description of renovation project: The renovation of this basement with a contemporary and rural design is a striking update compared to the tastes and style of the 50s. By careful planning, it was possible to include an area for the family, a bedroom, a bathroom and a laundry, and the photo does not even show a storage area and an engine room.

Design specifics:

  • Installation of a gas fire to replace an open fireplace
  • The use of ceramics for the floor for its resistance to moisture whilst retaining wood like features
  • Fitting the fireplace mantel with natural slate and quartz
  • Cabinet in white lacquer

Construction of a new house in concrete

Location: William Chapman Rd, Montreal

Description of project renovation:

The architectural design of this new construction is reminiscent of the refinement and durability of the European castles. Designed with pre-fabricated concrete panels, it took only 3 days to erect the outside walls.

Design specifics:

  • A 2 storey house with a finished basement with 6 bedrooms and 4 bathrooms
  • Windows in aluminium of the Bastille brand, made in Québec
  • Rigid structure in concrete, pillars and steel beams
  • Soundproofing to smother noise coming from the outside.

Bathroom renovation

Location: Victoria Rd, Westmount

Description of project renovation: The objective of this bathroom renovation is to review the lay out by removing the unused bath to create a spacious and comfortable space.

Design specifics:

  • Floor and walls completely covered in tiling
  • A rain shower system with a shower head, a set of LED lighting with a color option, an atomizer with a system of aromatherapy, all remotely controlled by an electronic keyboard.
  • Robust suspended vanity in Italian lacquer
  • Counter and shower bench in quartz
  • Open shower with glass panel recessed in the ceramic to avoid using metal molding and to retain the pure look of the design
  • The floor consists of reclines which directs the flow of water towards the drain regardless of where the water emerges
  • The whole area of the bathroom including the shower will have underfloor heating
  • A light shaft has been inserted between the outside wall and the bathroom ceiling to be able to enjoy daylight and the glow of the stars

Description of the project renovation: The project consists of annexing one of the rental accommodations on the 1st floor from the main premises on the ground floor by erecting a staircase between the area lived in by the family and the 1st floor.

  • Removing a load bearing wall to create an open plan environment.
  • Installation of a beam and 2 external pillars made of solid wood.
  • Mortised staircase between 2 structural stringers

Kitchen extension

Location: Durocher Rd, Outremont

Description project renovation: The construction consisted of an extension added to a kitchen.

Modern in design, the construction required rigorous planning and very precise calculations where nothing was left to chance.

The work was carried out in strict accordance with the declared intent of the owners to adhere to the principles of a healthy home and a sustain envelopment.

Design specifics:

  • The harmonization of the extension with the existing structure was the driving force behind the project in terms of the structural work as well as the aesthetics.
  • Outdoors, the extension blends in with the 2nd floor’s balcony structure which has been kept intact, in order to maintain the architectural continuity with the neighbor’s adjoining balcony..
  • The C joists (known also as “C irons”) and the balustrade that surrounds the green – both in galvanized steel – blend in with the garden gate and are made in the same material
  • The pattern on the balustrade’s railings are the same as the gate’s.
  • With the passing of time, the patina on the cedar coating will exude a greyish aspect which will lend itself to the color of the gate, of the beam, of the wall in masonry and of the fence in grey wood.
  • The choice of using oversized windows increases the visual span and allows daylight in.
  • Outdoor, tongue and groove cedar slats, custom cut to meet the owner’s requirements by a carpenter from the island of Orléans, are joined together at 45 degrees so as to preserve the horizontality.
  • Le choix d’un vitrage surdimensionné élargit l’espace au plan visuel tout en apportant une belle luminosité.

Putting the final touches to the basement of a new house

Description of project renovation: This basement with Moroccan features was designed to accommodate the needs of a growing family. It consists of a Moroccan living room, a games area, a room, a fully equipped bathroom, a laundry and 3 storage units.

Design specifics:

  • The design consists of contrasting different colors
  • The sliding doors of the Moroccan living room are made in solid wood
  • The door below the staircase is concealed to avoid contrasting with the door in solid wood
  • A gas fire embedded in the outside wall
  • The architectural planning to best meet the requirements of the occupants was facilitated by the area being originally empty

Construction of a new bathroom in a basement

Description of project renovation: The design of this bathroom with its strong colors corresponds with the taste and culture of the occupants who use it

Design specifics:

  • Thanks to the subtle use of the ambiance lighting, the cabinets appear to be floating in space.
  • The function of the sink, with its color and transparency, is obvious for all to see. It is the focal point of the bathroom.
  • The design consists of 8 different models of ceramics to cover the floor, walls and shower.
  • The shower column consists of jets for the body and a bench has been installed in a corner which offers a perfect environment for relaxation.

Construction of a new bathroom

Location: Rancourt Rd, Montréal

Project description:

The underlining architectural concept resides in an extremely pure classical design which withstands the test of time by calling upon the use of natural materials extracted from the soil as much as possible.

Design specifics:

  • The vanity, the bulkhead above the shower and the ccessory furniture are all made from Ipe wood, which is both exotic and water resistant.
  • The huge bath is the centerpiece of this relaxation area and consists of 2 comfortable seating places. In addition to the therapeutic equipment, the bath consists of a set of ambient lights which can be adjusted to suit the mood of the user.
  • The square sink is sculptured in similar marble to the marble on the walls.
  • The sink of the bathroom is unique: its shape is in the form of the bowl and is covered by a silver film, which is painted over to the customers’ requirements, which in turn is covered by a protective layer in enamel. The sink is designed by Tommy and dated 2013.
  • In the bathroom, the floor and the wall of the vanity are covered in black granite and offer a contrast to the white Luna marble which covers the other walls. The ceilings are coated in light grey and blend in well with the grey shades that can be found in the natural Luna marble.
  • The bath and the cabinet above the shower are installed with a set of chromotherapy lights that cast different colors on the water depending on the mood of the user, who is able to control the lighting effect remotely.

Description of renovation project: Transformation and renovation of a garage to use it as a laboratory for a teacher in electrical engineering

  • Complete repair work of the concrete slab and the plumbing drainage underneath it
  • Covering the garage walls with plywood which is water resistant
  • Putting in place a system for storage
  • Wiring in a 240 V plug to enable the use of an arc welding equipment
  • Exchanging the garage door for one with an electronically controlled system.

Complete renovation of the bathroom

Description of the project renovation:

This small bathroom was no longer in use and had to be completely rebuilt with a new wall structure, isolating the ventilation and making it waterproof. The main objective of the renovation was to optimize the allocation of space.

Design specifics:

  • Design of a rural nature
  • The shelf covers more than the toilet bowl to provide a wider area for optimal use
  • A cabinet has been installed above the toilet bowl
  • The mosaïc in stainless steel gives an accent color to the many niches that store the bathroom utensils

Description of the renovation project: The need to add this bathroom and laundry in the basement is due to the increasing size of the family and as illustrated on the “front” photo, also to satisfy an organizational requirement.

Design specifics:

  • Although the bathroom and the laundry share a common area, the use of paneling made of fabric on the retractable sliding door does give the impression that they are quite separate.
  • The design has a minimalist flavor to it and is inspired by optimizing the available space.

Specifics of design:

Cedar has been chosen as the base material for the construction of the structure in order to extend its life duration.
